Masculine norms and gender equality

We have conducted independent research for the UK Government Equalities Office about the range of impacts that masculine gender norms have on men and boys and those around them, from men’s health and wellbeing to violence against women and girls. This research also explored how to engage men and boys effectively in shifting harmful norms.

We have written about and researched a range of other contemporary issues connected to masculinity and gender equality, such as the range of responses among men to feminism. This includes a paper by Sandy Ruxton for the 5th International Conference on Men and Equal Opportunities (ICMEO) in 2020 exploring the potential benefits of, and obstacles to, involving men and boys in gender equality, and some of the factors that can facilitate their positive participation across a range of ‘sites’.
